Woodblock products
Sheets of paper and paper covered products hand using carved woodblock, inked and hand pressed directly on paper. Woodblock printing or Block printing in antiquity was as a method of printing on textiles and later became a tachnique for printing on paper. The wood block is carefully prepared as a relief pattern, which means the areas to show 'white' are cut out with a knife. Once the whole process of preparation of the design is finished we need to ink the block and press it directly on the paper. Each block corresponds to a colour, so if we are thinking of creating a pattern with more than one colour we will need to create as many blocks as the number of colours that will need to show on the print, unless we are thinking of the exact same pattern repeated on the whole surface in different colours, in this case one will be enough. It will also be difficult to align the different blocks in the correct way becuse the prints are created manually. These papers are very popular among bookbinders, we offer a selection of recent block prints and others obtained using original blocks from the beginning of the 20th century.
