This beautiful handmade journal/notebook/sketchbook is made with plain watermarked paper bound by hand with hand marbled paper.

Plain (unlined) 95 gsm acid-free paper inside for a truly high-quality writing experience. Marbled on the cover. Suitable for all types of pen, including fountain pen.

The technique used to create the marbling requires great skill and precision, and has been used in Italy since the 17th century. A basin is filled with a thick, vegetable-based liquid, and its surface is sprinkled with different colours. The craftsman creates patterns in these colours using combs, and then gently places the paper on the surface of the liquid without moving the design. It only takes a few seconds for the paper to absorb the colours, then the decoration is complete and the colours are immediately dry.
